Designing with Neutrals- Out of My Comfort Zone

The navy blue with magenta accent cotton/linen  wrap is done and off the loom! Washed, fringed and ready for a new home.  So time to get something else going.  Sines I am right at the beginning of this next project I thought it would be fun to write a series of blog posts about my weaving process.  Of course, there are as many techniques and opinions about techniques as their are weavers, so this is certainly not the only way, just what works for me.

I love color, as I'm sure you can tell from the pieces I've woven and yarn I've dyed.  Life is it too short, in my opinion, for neutrals.  I know, I know, neutrals can be beautiful. I agree. But just like with knitting, if I'm going to stare at something for hours and days, I want to see purple and blue and pink! And I am the same way, for the most part, with my clothes. Hell, I'm about to dye my hair blue (Saturday!) So the other day I was thinking about wearing one of the wraps I had woven but could not coordinate it with any clean shirt. I needed a neutral colored wrap! Or a neutral colored shirt but I hate clothes shopping more than nearly everything else in the world. And I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has come to the same "neutral accessory" conclusion, so my next weaving will be taupe, chocolate & black. I'm actually really excited!

So that's step one- concept. I came up with a design I like and works with how my loom is already set up. I have a great program called iWeaveit on my iPad so I can plan out project design & color at the same time. I can move colors around to see how that would change the look and plan it digitally. So this is the concept for my next wrap. Ignore the red lines; they are just markers for me.

I know I said neutral and yet this has red stripes. Ignore them. They won't be in the cloth, promise!

I have it planned for three colors right now, the taupe, the chocolate & possibly some black.

Now we get into structure of woven fabric & how that translates to the loom... In tomorrow's post! I'm too tired tonight.  We made a cherry pie today from the cherries that we grew! It Was Amazing! Honestly, I never knew cherry pie could be that good. No pictures of the pie because we couldn't wait to dive into it. But here is a can of cherries! We canned them because we didn't know when we were going to be able use them.  We invited our lovely neighbors over to help us eat it... they have two kids... two very energetic kids. So I'm beat! More tomorrow- warp & weft!

They look fake, don't they? #nofilters
